RearPro Guts Only - Parts - Etc...?

I am doing a custom install for a friend and he is interested in getting a
rear-pro tv but instead of putting the damn thing on the floor - we wants to
know if I can install the thing into the wall? I was thinking if I could
get hold of a place that sells the guts of a rear-pro i could 'hide' it in a
wall without the case - just the guts to keep the 'bulk' down. if i did it
this way I can organise to fit it into the wall of his house and not on the
floor?

Any ideas and reccomendations - and before u send me to 'try google' I have
already and foind some nice places to get stuff and at reasonable prices -
what i am looking for is a few extra idea and maybe someone to recommend
someone here in australia that deals with this sort of thing?

Also - before anyone else mentions it...

He doesnt want a projector - salesman have been in his ear too often for him
to take this up and he said he doesnt like the idea of a 'screen'

What do you mean "he doesn't want a projector"? What do you think makes the
image in a rear projection system?

There are a number of manufacturers of "custom" RP systems that I can think
of.

Visual Fidelity in Victoria www.visualfidelity.com
Herma www.herma.com.au

are a couple, but they provide the frames, screens and mirrors, and you have
to provide the projector.
You will also find that it is going to cost heaps more that a standard RP
system from Hardly Normal etc.

Ah, I know that, I used to sell them, for about 4yrs - but from a customer
point of view THEY dont know how it works - and when he said "projector" he
ment "a box screwed to the roof and a screen on the wall"... ;-)

I was only after the fresnel screen anyway - and I hooked up with a mate at
the TV section of the old Toshiba service site - hes looking at getting me
stuff on the cheap! ;-)

well technically that's what you get in an RP TV. Its just a rear
projection screen, instead of reflecting light like a normal screen,
it is supposed to "transmit" light.

How deep is the wall he wants it in?! It would need to be at least as
deep as an RP TV. Then you'd require a mirror to reflect the image
onto the screen, and some way of accessing the projector in situ so
that it can be aligned.
 
Thanks for the help everyone - its been done - I got a screen today and its
going to be here tomorrow morning - the unit is quite large but it was built
into a 'feature wall' so the thickness of the wall was no concern...

Its been done and thanks for the tips - Ill be making the plans available
very soon if anyone is interested?
