Considering the recent publicity that Get Up has had with Wikileaks, I
decided to look on their webpage and sure enough there is a proposed
campaign against these greedy retailers that might be of interest if
people here want to get behind it.

Great thought, and worth backing, but I'll almost bet nothing happens on the selected dates.

I am feeling that it will all blow over, and ring leader Gerry Harvey will end up with egg on his face.

Me, I won't be going near his stores. I thought very highly of Gerry in the past, but I cringe when I see him now.
He got himself nicely stuck in the 20th century, and needs to "move forward" ( ) before the tide turns against him.

I also hope he ends up, I have a small beef also.(apart from the

major one,GST)
He has a discount place at grandville near super cheap auto, there is
not enough parking and he monopolizes two spots outside his entrance for
no purpose except (they say)to carry things out, (I have never seen the
spaces used)They just have those boards on a frames like they use on
roads blocking the cars.
They have a loading dock which they used to use which means their excuse
is rubbish.
I wish I could find his personal email address.

I doubt it too, but it is a start.
If he pisses enough people off that enough of them make a choice to
shop online or at somewhere other than at his store for their NEXT and
possibly future purchases, then it will have some impact.

There have been several articles on this over the last week or so that
I have seen and all of the comments under them fill up with mostly
examples of

1> how much people have saved buying product x from the US and saved
significant amounts compared to Harvey.
2> How shit the service and product range is in his stores
3> How customers managed to sometimes screw him down on price on same
article as online.
4> The fact that many AUS retailers and importers are greedy and have
been ripping people off for a long, long time.

Anyone who wasn't aware of these things before and seen any of these
news article reader comments, has now had these facts spelled out to
them, and a lot of these people are now more likely to start looking
online to find these "unbelievable" deals.

As prices on everything go up and interest rates rise and rise, many
will be Forced to go and look online and these comments may be what
they need to see to get the ball rolling for them.

All this can only mean potential losses for the prick, either by more
people shopping online or larger % of people coming in-store and
screwing his prices down. I can see some people videoing these
"negotiations" and if they don't end well, or the salesperson is one
bit rude or arrogant, the thing ending up on you tube with very
unfavourable commentary and probably online examples of cheaper prices
shoved in for good measure. I'm sure others will try and wind up the
salesperson to get such a reaction on film

You didn't think highly of HIM, you thought highly of the carefully
created "image" of him that was presented by the media etc that
depends on his advertising revenue and isn't going to show him as
anything other than "Mr. wonderful".
The same applies to most with power, mega $$ as well as most
politicians and other such human excrement who like to sponge off and
manipulate others, and usually only succeeded through dishonesty,
corruption (like in this case of attempting to manipulate government
to do favours for them). etc

same taxes shouldn't apply to overseas traders, if we are to have a
'level playing field'.

taxes shouldn't apply to overseas traders, if we are to have a 'level
playing field'.

We have a "level playing feild", the freight we pay is more than 10% of the
purchase cost. The problem is Gerry the DH wants it tilted, only his way of
course.

The freight who pays?

Retailers have all sorts of other trading advantages and disadvantages
compared with online and overseas vendors and individual purchasers, but
this is about GST.

Everyone thinks GST is a great idea until they perceive they are losing
by it. They are not only as hypocritical as they say Gerry Harvey is,
but they are stupid if they don't think they are losing by it in many
other ways.
