i was looking @ some of the new dvd recorders now available like the
pioneer 310 ..I believe there is a 510model (with HDD) @ twice the
price.. But from specs etc I am still puzzled as to... and how they can
copy an original dvd movie say.. Can the 310 do it and how does the 510
do it..?

although i want them basically to copy some old vhs stuff and some new
camcoder stuff on dvd..i would also like to backup some of my existing
dvd's as I have found few not working through being scratched etc

or am i better going for a burner on PC...?

TNX in advance

Nope, cant be done because the burners currently cant write dual
layer DVDs. Claimed to be able to do it by the end of the year tho.

What you CAN do is capture say stuff broadcast and write a DVD.

You'll have to wait for a bit yet on the copying.

Yes.
