Hi all. Got a 1997 model RCA PTK195 big screen set. Have read about the
other conv problems, but they don't apply here I don't think. First off,
someone else worked on it and gave up. Lucky me. Here's what it does. Its
big, so looked at in place first.
Looked at, no convergence. Looked over conv ps and board. Fixed a few bad
solder joints, also cleaned off solder shorting 2 resistors together on
output of green conv, to yoke, a splash from earlier fix. No sign of tube
oil leakage. Owner says tubes are new, from earlier repair.
What is my thing, before I dig real deep, maybe you have seen this -- conv
ps regulator, the STK730-130, runs pretty hot. Hotter than I've seen before.
Also, a wisp of smoke and smell drifts up from, lookswise, between the red
and green tube. So far, I haven't been able to tell where it is coming from.
I ohmed the conv yokes, all read the same, about 1.2 ohms on dig meter,
means about .9 ohms for real reading. I feel no eccesive heat at heat sinks
on conv board, but would like to find this overheating thing. Preferably
without waiting for part to burn out completely. I pulled the splitter,
which rides in that area, but saw nothing wrong there.
I have the ps and conv board at the shop, didn't bring whole innard this
time. Anyone seen this before?
Cheers, Danny
