RCA CTC-169 Retrace Diode

I need some help with this set I have on my bench right now. It's a
CTC-169AS chassis (32"), it came in with the power supply totally blown.
Replacing the TEA2261 and the regulator transistor (along with a few caps)
got the set going, but the picture had excessive horizontal width and the
pincushioning was way off. I eventually found a very leaky retrace diode,
CR402, which I assume to be the cause of the problem. Trouble is, I can't
find a cross reference for it. I tried putting in a couple of other damper
diodes (also of unknown value), this corrected the pincushioning but
resulted in a narrow raster. The original part number is 545-6. Does anyone
know a generic replacement that will work? Preferably an NTE number, or a
1Nxxxx.

Those are RCA numbers. Any generic numbers available?

Dont use generic they are no good in this chassis.
Maybe the diode could be generic but not the Cap
Order them from MCM ...

Hi Chris,

When you rebuilt that SMPS, did you replace all four electrolytic
capacitors? This is required and main cause for blown SMPS. Also
must use RCA part for that chopper transistor (Q4101). Subs will not
work.

While in standby, adjust to 143V +/-0.5V *after* caps replacement.

The pincushion is another common failure along with these four caps in
SMPS. The '169 is excellent chassis.

And yes, Global does supply all these parts for RCA. We use Global
for our shop.

Actually, I had subbed that regulator transistor with something quite
different, just to get the set going. Maybe that's why the picture was
shrunk after the other components were replaced. The original part crosses
to a NTE 2311, and that's what I had intended to order. Yes I did replace
all the electrolytics in the power supply, as they were all down in value
and one had even leaked onto the PCB.
Yeah I figured those parts were available from Global, so I guess I'll end
up getting them from those guys. Truth be told, I was hoping to be able to
use only generic parts, so I could order them from somewhere else. Global
has a great selection, but their service is the PITS! Defective parts
(especially flybacks), incorrect parts, and slow shipping are the main
reasons I avoid these guys. Cathray Trade Supply, on the other hand, has
always given me impeccable service, and that's why I prefer them. It's just
unfortunate that their selection isn't as large.....

Are you talking about one of those blue, rectangular caps? I stock a lot of
high-voltage mylar caps (for restoring antique radios) and I've always used
these as replacements, on these 169 chassis' (and with good success)
..

Chris,

Global sells both generic stuff and OEM parts, Buy OEM or real ones
(ASK!) only for semis. Generics and on sales for pennies (too good to
be true is the sh!ts) except for the RCA generic HV block divider
seems ok, move the OEM collars to it, generic collars were too long.

Also try to get the original HOTs and key transistors that's are real
thing not the fakes, Global has too many of them.

I still wanted better supplier but Global stays with us because this
is one of approved warrenty stuff, along with other brands we service.
:p

Just do the orders with care with global's for parts and get their
catalog please also you do need to get parts lists from OEM. Like RCA
partfinder II etc.

Part #164589 = ECG/NTE 580

This is the same part for CR4118 which should be changed as routine
maintenance also.

The cap in the horiz circuit should be changed with the OEM part.
