RCA Boom Box Problem

RCA Boom Box Model RP-7989B.
The radio and tape casette work fine.
I can hear low level sound from the CD
player only if I turn the volume all the way up.
I have cleaned the CD lens with a 3M cleaning CD.
(I didn't expect the cleaning to do anything
because clearly I *am* getting digital info
from the CD.)
How can I repair the CD player in the boom box?

To reply directly to me, replace all 'z' with 'a' in email address.

Could be electrolytics or something that is keeping the audio feed from the CD
player section to the amplifier section.

You may be better off replacing the boombox. These things can be had for cheap
and are hardly worth the trouble of trying to repair. - Reinahrt

I agree, but I view this as a challenge.
(Although I must admit that after opening up the boombox, I might look
for a differnet challenge.)
