RCA 27" TV Ch M134C Service Menu Information

Guest
Hi,
I have in my service shop, an RCA TV 27V412T chassis M134C that I can
not set the TV sound for stereo. It stays in "MONO" (on a channel with stereo
sound) . I can change the sound mode (eg. Speech, Theater, etc.). Pressing
"MTS" button on the remote only causes a display, "CATV 4 MONO" to appear
on the screen. "MTS" is suppose to allow me to select "Mono", "Stereo", or
"SAP".

I can access the sound settings, "Vol, Bass, Treble, Bal, and Sound Mode"
via Menu.

I have SAMs Photofact 5234 and know how to enter the Service Menu, but
there is no information regarding Menu 10 "Mode4", "Mode5", "Mode6", etc.

Do you know what the "Mode(s)" (Service Menu #10) represent?

Thank You in Advance, John

Hi Bruce,

My own RCA TV, a similar model, uses the same remote and when I push the
MTS button, sure enough there is the correct menu, "Stereo, Mono, etc." which
is set for "Stereo".

I don't get this with my customer's TV.

John

I hate to sound like Mister Obvious but are you sure there is a station
broadcasting in MTS?

That was the old analog broadcast system, I know there are a few LPTV
stations left but are any of them really using MTS?

I'm just saying, unless the set is seeing a stereo MTS signal on an analog
channel, I don't think you can select any other mode besides mono.

Maybe it ws a cheaper version of your set, and does not have the
ability to do stereo.

Well, just because they are similar doesn't mean anything these days. Odds
are, even if they were the identical model, made just a month apart, there
probably was some software update between them.

It seems to be one of those tv's with a central cpu (IC101) that calls all
the shots and a handful of support parts.

Anyway, looking at your original question, about the service menus, it looks
like from the RCA manual, only Menu 1,2,3 and 8 can be adjusted or changed.

All the others including #10 "cannot be adjusted". So if you think a
solution is there, you can't really do anything about it.

I mean you are probably right, there is something wrong with the audio
selector, but it's one of those tv's, based on age and cost where if it has
sound at least, might as well pack it up and leave it be.

It doesn't appear to be an ATSC model, so trying to fix the MTS stereo
selection on it really seems pointless to me. Like I said before, there may
be a few lptv stations left, but I really doubt if any of them are doing
"stereo" anymore.
