Who had one of these as a kid?

Build a drum/percussion sound generator using only the components
available in the kit. You even get an NPN, two PNPs and that integrated
circuit-thing to work with. Those transformers might be useful. Bonus
points for using the relay or the 7 segment display.

Here's my entry it's sort of like a Synare synth-tom.

those spring kits are the best, as once the kid is bored of the projects in the book you can pull all the passives out, add some more and build loads more stuff. The springs are then just junction points.

I feel like the kit I had was earlier than that one, a hand-me-down from
the early 70s. The 100-in-1 kit, the "IC" didn't have much to it just a
transistor and a couple of diodes in a see-thru package. That one seems
to have a "real" IC with several on-chip transistors and resistors.
There is more sophistication and variety to the projects in the guide.
