R30 Laptop

I'm looking to repair a laptop with the follow problems:
1- Would only turn on with AC and Battery.
2- Speakers did not work.

However later:
3- Unit won't turn on at all.

I called IBM checking on the price of a new MB FRU 12P3648. Of course
the cost was huge and way beyond the repair budget.

So are there any ways by which I could possibly repair the unit?

Is there any place to obtain this kind of motherboard at a fraction of
the cost IBM wants?

Hmm. Find a scrap machine with a good mainboard, on Ebay ?
