Quantity discount on an old custom chip

There is a stockist out there who owns a stock of old custom
chips (ULAs) that were used as a memory controller and CRTC in
an old, relatively obscure, 8-bit microcomputer).

He asks 8 euros apiece.

A number of users of said microcomputer are thinking of getting
together and making one big order to negotiate a better price.

What sort of discount would you expect per quantities of, say,
30, 100 and 300 ?

Does he have any chance of selling them to anyone else? If not, then offer
him 50 euros for thousands of them!

If he has thousands of them then you won't get a lot of discount unless you are
buying lots of 1000.

8 Euros doesn't sound too bad, but it all depends on supply and demand. A lot of
the dealers won't get out of bed for less than a few hundred pieces these days.

What is the IC number ?

I'd say that you should get one for evaluation before you commit to a
large purchase. There are unscruplous distributors out there.

He is unlikely to sell them, just make a low low offer for the lot and wait
(start at 20cents each).
