I need to pull 5v from a 9v battery. how can this be done and would the
battery drain slower?

Thanks,

Jim

pull very hard and see what you get?

OK, use a 5 volt regulator, preferrably a low-drop type like LM2950
because the normal ones need alt least 2V drop and a 9V battery will
quickly drop below 7V.

PICmicro chips, programmers, consulting

you could use a voltage regulator like a LM7805

battery drain would not be less.

for power saving use a switch mode regulator but

cost and complexity may not justify.

why not use 3 x 1.5v (1.7v new off load) nominal AA or AAA voltage will be
(4.5 -5.2 )ok for most 5v circuits.
