Are these available? The laser is dead in mine and I would prefer to change
it than have to shell out for a new one.

depending on the cause of the problem, you may be wasting your money on
a new laser module

Yep, they are available.If yours is a v9/v10 there will have to be a mod
done to stop the laser burning out again.Also might need a chip replacement.
Better than buying a slimline which have problems.
