i have a 14inch proview monitor that ive been using for years. it has lost
contrast, or maybe brigtness. i have to turn the color settings up to get
the brightness back and frequently have to do a gamma adjust to bring it
back up to par on certain progs. would it be the CRT or is there some
relatively inexpensive components that may be causing this? or could it be
excessive dust causing overheat ,the back has never been off.

Shure...its excessive dirt build up....yah...that makes sense. Operate it
with the back off, I'm certain that it'll brighten up then. Maybe while the
back is off, you'll see one of those cheap components that you can replace
yourself.
Oh, and when your car starts to drive rough, drive with the doors open, that
oughta get all the pesky dust off of the engine.
