Does anyone out there have any experience with both protel and dxdesigner?

Any reason to use DsDesigner ( and PADS) rather then Protel?

Continuing with the previous question:

Protel 2004 costs approx $7,800.

I received the folllwing quotation from Mentor graphics, and am trying to
compare features.

Quote 1 : Power Suite 055 - for $4,485, including PowerPCB 085SP layout
package with On-Line DRC, Automatic dimensioning, 6250 connection limit
Dynamic Route Editor, GerberView-II, PowerLogic and cross probing.

Quote 2: PowerSuite 085- for $7995, Includes PowerPCB 085SP layout package
with On-Line DRC, Automatic dimensioning, 6250 connection limit Dynamic
Route Editor, GerberView-II, PowerLogic and cross probing.

Quote 3: PowerSuite 160 $ 19,995 Includes PowerPCB 155SP layout software
with Unlimited Dynamic Route Editor, Extended Rules, ACT's ECAM-II software
for fabrication, PowerLogic and cross probing.

How do the above quotations compare with Protel in features?

Thanks

No. Protel is easier to use, and in my experience more acceptable to a wider
group of customers and suppliers.

Unless you do work that means you have to have a compatible system
with Ds Designer, PADS, or Protel I would touch these products.
They're pricey and difficult to use in my experience. I use Pulsonix
- a much better system, easy to use, and the price is about right.
You can get a demo on www.pulsonix.com

What an odd message! Do you mean Protel is easier to use than
DsDesigner or easier than Pulsonix?
I find it to be so.

Your comments are also very strange!

I'd agree Protel is easier than
DsDesigner but certainly not easier than Pulsonix. I've used PADS,
Protel, OrCAD, Easy-PC and now use a Pulsonix license, so I think I
know what I'm talking about...
I'm glad you are comfortable with your opine, I do disagree.

I have used dozens of CAD packages, I also am comfortable with my opine.
I tried Pulsonic, and was unimpressed.

Also, "more acceptable to a wider group of customers and
suppliers".... what does this mean? What customers? What suppliers?
Services are customarily sold to customers, and built (fabed) By suppliers.

CAD systems rarely have to interface with supplier's systems.
??? Always must interface with the tools used!

If "suppliers" means board manufacturers they all accept standard
industry formats: Gerber or ODB++. Being acceptable to "customers" is
only relevant if he is running a bureau operation. If this is the
case I'd say there's probably more PADS customers than Protel.
I own a Service company and I use Orcad and Protel. (Several versions of
each.)
I have only had one inquiry for PADS, and they were willing to accept anything
"equal" so I gave them Protel.

I suddenly realised <sp> why your answers are so odd and out of context
with the questions - no disrespect, but English isn't your first
language is it..?
English! With which You also seem to have a problem! No disrespect intended.

Anyway, we now know you're running a service bureau with Protel and
OrCAD. Hence, you're bound to be pushing these tools. So, whatever
the question the answer from you is Protel, right?
I do not "push" anything. I am very familiar with them and like the way they
work.
No I have also used "Veri-Best," "EE-Designer," "Cell," "Vanguard," "Pads," and
several other packages. However I am currently using Orcad and Protel for what
I feel are good reasons.

Also, "Clarence" it's "Pulsonix" not "Pulsonic"
Look at your keyboard. I believe you will find the "C" and "X" keys are
adjacent. The spelling check doesn't like either one!

Oh brother! Clarence, your English grammar gets worse every message.
Are you using a computerised <sp?> language translator by any chance?

Here we go... yet again...hopefully this approach will keep up, so that
Clarence (and Macon) will kill file everyone, where upon none of us will
see their posts if they don't actually initiate any.

Fear not, it's coming to an end here. This is clear evidence of a
computerised translation. Clarence's system interprets Oh brother! as
an appeal to join my family. Whereas of course it's an expression of
exasperation.

Maybe the same system chants a subliminal mantra: "Protel is the
answer, Protel is the answer...." I think Clarence answers Protel to
any question....

Is there a meaning to life? - Protel
Is there a god? - Protel
Will Bush be re-elected? - Protel
