Trying to find a place that Has Schematics for a PIC programmer, I would
rather Build than buy one , for the experience.
Also, I had dloaded picbasic demo, and i can only get it to install on win98
, not xp,,
where might i find good pic programming software for xp?
TIA

While I respect your enthusiasm, let me offer a little advice (worth
every penny you paid for it ;-). You obviously have intentions of do
some tinkering with PIC chips, since they're pretty much useless by
themselves. ;-) Believe me, you will gain plenty of experience just
getting an LED to blink the first time, without having to worry whether
your home-built programmer is working right. While the real cheap "no
parts" type programmers *can* work ok and look real appealing, allot of
people give up early because they can't get their programmer working
reliably. While it's cute to violate the comm. specs of a PC and get
away with it, it eventually will bite you in the butt when you least
expect it.

How about a compromise? I suggest you buy a kit from somebody like
www.kitsrus.com or www.electronics123.com. Then you can have the
satisfaction of building it yourself while still being able to retain
your sanity later on. Get one that supports ICSP (like KIT149 or CPS149
for example) and also pay the money for a wide slot 40 pin ZIF socket.
Once you start working with these, you will see why. ;-) I usually
flash my chips hundreds of times during my tinkering projects. Any
thing to make that process quicker, easier and more reliable is worth a
look, trust me. Trust me, there is nothing more frustrating than trying
to get your next set of changes flashed in and then having to fight the
programmer.
