Problems with RCA CDRW 121

I need help figuring out how to fix my RCA CDRW 121. I'm having
intermitent problems recognizing CDR CDs in the recoding tray.
Sometimes the equipment will work flawlessly and sometimes it will say
No Disc, even though there is a CD in the tray. I have already
cleaned the lenses and replaced three leaky capacitors, however, it is
still giving me grief. Any ideas as to what to do next?

The CD-R section is a non-serviceable part. Replaced as a complete unit. Way
too expensive for an out-out-warranty repair, plus they aren't generally
even available in my experience.

I saw a brochure once for some sort of HP optical drive:

Mean Time To Failure: [some rediculously large number]
Mean Time To Repair: Not serviceable.

And this wasn't a $50 CD-R drive - it probably cost $thousands!
