Problem installing Cadence5.1.4.1 on Fedora 8

Guest
I am having problems installing Cadence on Fedora 8. Does anybody have
any experience here.

When I run SETUP.SH from the installation directory I get this error.

The following tar errors were detected:

/bin/tar: Removing leading `/' from member names

Could not set up SoftLoad in /cad01/cadence/ic

You must have write permissions to install directory
and all its subdirectories
and atleast 10 MB available disk
space in install directory

But I proceeded to the installation directory /cad01/cadence/ic, and
found that install/bin.lnx86 is installed there, and softload is
inside this new directory. I ran softload and got to the part on

Updating package installation information.......

Checking data files...

and then it gave me an error

Executing control programs (pre-load) ...
sort: open failed: +3: No such file or directory
expr: syntac error

SL-8: No information available on :.

Just edit the setup.sh file, and remove the code where it checks to see if
the tar operation succeeded.

Honestly, I've seen organizations 100th the size of Cadence handle
installation with better ease..

I looked at the SETUP.SH file and found the part which contains the /
bin/tar code.
I do not have much experience, but that part of the codes seems kind
of important. The comments there says that it is checking for
hierarchy (whatever that means). What do you think?

Well, softload is end-of-lifed anyway these days. InstallScape is much
easier to use.

Also, this is not a supported OS... (just a minor point).

Andrew.
