Power supply and battery charging

I have a MD player with a 700mAh NiCD battery (1.5V) and have just bought a
500mA power supply (multiple voltage settings). The power supply is your
average retailer model (nothing special about it). How would this supply go
with charging the battery? (or would it not charge??)

That depends on the charge rate of the battery.
If it's slow charged then no problem. If it's fast charged then you
may potentially have a problem. What does the manual/specs say about
the external plugpack required?
