power antenna

I am thinking of turning an old car AM/FM/CD player (Pioneer) into a boombox.
I have a transformer to get the 12V and I know a sheet metal worker who
will make a box for me. I want to incorporate a power antenna. I've been
hitting eBay lately and I've noticed that many (all?) have a clear tube about
6 - 12 inches long attached to the bottom of the assembly. What is this
tube for?

Thanks,

-Lydokane-

It certainly does not go down into the tube! Feel free to check out
eBay auction number 2446559162 and have a look at the picture. You
will see a power antenna (fully retracted) and at the bottom of the
antenna assembly there is a clear tube about 8 to 12 inches long.

Nice try, now, who wants to offer an EDUCATED answer?

Easy! (grin) It is a drain pipe to lose any water that may get in there!
Cheers Dennis Merry Xmas
