Possible to substitute 2N3904 for a 2N222 ?

I'm building a computer/rc transmitter interface cable which calls for the
2N222 (or better) resistor. I'm assuming the "or better" does not include
the sub I mentioned but more likely a 2N222A. Having a hard time getting my
hands on true equivelents such as ECG123A 2N2222A 133690 BC107B BC109 BSS26
ECG123AM.

If interested in getting an idea of the application ->

It will probably work fine. I don't have complete specs for the 2N222
but that seems to be a typo you mean the PN2222

While the 3904 won't be good for the same collector current, most of
the other specs are the same or close to a PN2222 - 2N2222 is the
metal case version of the same part.

And I quote:
276-2009 NPN 2222a Transistor (Many NPN transistors will work)

That really looks like a non-critical application to me

If Radio Shack parts are good enough, most any NPN should work

Thanks for the reply.

The 2N2222 wasn't a typo but my calling it a resistor was. ;-) I'm actually
working from a number of websites that have very slight variants on this
interconnect harness. One of which lists the afore mentioned. I figured
since they are basically switches I could do litlle harm to either my
computer or transmitter by using any transistor as long as it's connected
properly...could be wrong though.

As you can tell I'm not a circuit component wiz so your input was much
appreciated.

I'm *not* an expert, just a hobbyist type, so take my words with a grain of
salt.

It looks like they're using the transistor as a binary switch and not an
amplifier of any sort? so, most any NPN should work I would imagine?

Might need to vary the size of the resistor depending on which transistor you
use. I'd just raid some old piece of junk for the part if you can, preferably
something that does NOT use surface mount tech.

I'd suggest picking up some mechanical junk to hold the whole thing together,
or take a plastic lid off of something, drill a couple holes in it and feed the wires
through the holes, idea being to keep them from comming apart (or shorting)

Caveat, I'm not expert!
