Poptronics.com now a porn site

Not that there's been much mention of the old Poptronics
website since the magazine folded (was it two years ago now?),
but they've kept it up, Larry Steckler having bought or taken
over the remaining assets. It hasn't been very lively (actually
it hadn't been lively before the magazine died) but there
were promises of things to come, and there were two web forums
that were sort of used (but not nearly the traffic as when
the magazine was alive).

A few months ago, there was another notice that the site would
still be upgraded, but also a warning that they'd be unable to
process store orders, even if it appeared to be operating.
That didn't sound so good, if you kill something for a while people
may not come back, and if you don't disable it, people will wonder
why they never received their order.

Anyway, earlier in this week I made one of my every couple of
weeks check of the site, and a porn site is now sitting there.
The domain is still registered to Larry Steckler. Sending email
to Larry Steckler's email address in the domain registration
(which is a mail forwarding address), it bounces when they
send it to Larry's email address. Same thing using the email
address for Larry Steckler that was on the old website (grabbed
because it's still cached by a search engine).

Kind of amusing, but also kind of sad. I have no idea if this
is a hijacking, or lack of internet knowledge has caused a misconfiguration.

But this looks like the final end for the magazine.

I noted the same while I was looking for some kind of index of Poptronics /

I think it is hijacking pure and simple. It happened to a charitable website
also (and I suspect many others).
Is there something that can be done?
Is the poptronics website still alive behind the porn site?
If so, how to reach it?

Also, I found that my public library holds the above magazines, does anybody
know/have an index of the articles published on the magazines?

The public library has an index. It's in the Reference section. It's
called "The Reader's Guide to Periodical Literature" or something like
that. If you ask the library person for "The Reader's Guide," she'll
probably know what you're talking about. They're green. (or were 30 years
ago...)

Good Luck!

Thanks!

Did not even know that such a thing existed.
In the meantime I found that my university has about 5 or 6 years worth of
Poptronics in e-journal format!
