Hi,

I have an RCA RP-2410 CD/mp3 player that was manufactured April 2001.

The problem it that it never thinks the door is shut, and therefore
won't play a disk. When a disk is inserted, door is closed and "play"
is pressed, the display lights up and indicates the door is ajar. The
display stays on for several seconds, as I assume is normal, then goes
out. Apparently there is a faulty sensor mechanism.

I would love for someone with some experience with these devices to
tell me how they know the door is closed...or for that matter point me
at a manual. Appreciate any help and thanks.

Cannot give you a manual, but I would suspect there is a microswitch on the
door, that when the door is closed informs the electronics that the door is
closed. While hopefully the switch is at fault, there could be an
electronic fault. But try the simpler things first.
