G'day everyone,
I recently acquired a piece of equipment (a beacon transponder) which
should TX on 5480 MHz. It has an 'oscillator' in it that seems
tunable, and I'd like to see whether I can use it for HAM-purposes.
The part. nr. of this oscillator (?) is 'VMC-1680', made by
Varian/beverly
date code is 88346
there's a 'caution' on it: "keep 4" away from iron magnets"
There are 3 wires: a black, a red and a grey one. None of them seem to
be high voltage rated.
I originally assumed it was a Magnetron or Klystron of some sort (I
know Varian made klystrons with codenr. 'VMX-nnnn', but since none of
the wires seem HV-rated I'm in doubt....
If anyone has any info on these things (have already tried contacting
Varian/Eimac (CPII)), like what it is
and what the voltage,
current, powerratings etc. are, I'd GREATLY appreciate it!
Sincerely,
Peter Dingemans,
The Netherlands.
