Hi, all

I am planning on designing a new board. Unfortunately, I have to use at
least one IC in BGA package (this one only comes in BGA).

Who can do a placement of a BGA package in a small quantities, e.q. not a
large set up cost?

I will be doing a couple of boards initially. Package is 196 pin,
15*15*0.8P1.0.

Thanks,
Rudolf

Probably not much help to you, but we located a mob here in Perth who
will do one-off SMD board stuffing if pushed. Used them for an
initial batch of 20, about 45 SMD passives plus some logic and a
QSOP28 (25 thou). Was $9.50 per board in 20 batch, or indicated <$20
for a single trial unit.

There MUST be equivalents over eastside. Contact StevenM at Airborn
for a possible lead.

Entech in Adelaide may be able to help.

You may like to try Precision Circuits here in Melbourne, they do
small production runs for prototyping, manufacture of PCB's and
placement of components.

They will also X-ray your boards to confirm solder bonding of the BGA
chips.

Here is their web address

I have toyed with the idea of using BGA chips a few times but I have heard
to many horror stories about contract manufacturers using cowboy methods for
placing them. May I suggest you do your homework before chosing a
manufacturer. Make sure the manufacturer knows how to read the datasheet on
the particulars of soldering the device in question. A collegue of mine has
used BGA parts and has only had success with some company in melbourne. I
can track down the info if you are interested.

Anyway, the person in question told me his story but i wasn't really paying
attention. IIRC he was talking about hotspots and something along the lines
programming an IR reflow machine to prevent such problems. I don't know how
its done but when you find out it would be nice if you reported it here ;-)

Cheers.

Andy

The company in perth is called Advanced Assembly. The contact there is Brett
Russell.
They are in Osborne Park.

*The* company? That isn't the one I was referring to.
