Hi,
@ last computer market there was both of these sold ...Pioneer A06 in a
box and Pioneer 106 as OEM version with some software.

The A06 was 395 and the oem 325.

As far as I can tell they are the same DVD drive (except the number)
but what is nearly $70 worth extra in the boxed version?.. can someone
enlight on this difference and is it worth it? .. also if it is some
bit of extra software .. what exactly is it .. and where else can I get
it.. if I purchase the OEM version ..?

I think one is a "grey market" import and the other is a locally
delivered model.

Basically, Pioneer won't support the import for warranty authorisations.
It's all on their website somewhere.

Are you sure about that ..as the impression I got (@the computer
markets) is that you can get boxed or oem version ..hence I see no
problem with warranty .. but then again I did not ask them about that
(warranty on oem)..

Here's what's on Pioneer's website:

Looks like the "106" is something different entirely. Maybe the "OEM"
is fine. Still, it's nice to know that Pioneer won't support it if you
buy the wrong one.

The boxed one is referred to as the retail version. It has Ulead video
studio, or something similarly named, but the OEM version doesn't I think.

I always get the company's details BEFORE I buy from computer markets.
If the place is inconvenient, I won't buy from them.

However, I've had to return a hard disk before, and had no trouble
whatsoever. Most places are computer stores looking to make more money
over the weekend and will perform just as good a job as many average
computer stores will.

Well i never had that much bad experience ..as long as I had the
purchase dockets .. Also in the same way much can be said of the so
called "proper Suburban stores" that open up ..give guarantees for
umpteen years .. only to find out about a year or two later .. they
completely disappear in thin air .. Most of the dealers at the markets
have been selling the stuff for years and they are still there .. sure
there is second hand stuff etc .. but then on the day .. make your own
judgement as to the qaulity of what you are getting .. I ussually
purchase the part and leave my self enough time to test it at home ..if
it don't work back it goes ..before the markets close..and that has been
pretty rare .. but than again there is people that will only buy BRAND
names and from the BIG stores ..if they can afford it ..that is their
choice ..

Both are the same drives. Just one has better software than the other.
Read the warning on the pioneer site before buying one if yu value
having a warranty with your burner.

Not quite. The A06 is the retail version, and 106 is the OEM version.
Both of these are available locally, with full support from pioneer,
or can be imported, with no support from pioneer.

The difference between the Retail and OEM packs is that the retail
version comes with a few blanks (DVD-R and DVD-RW), and a CD with some
software for editing and authoring DVD's, while the OEM version is
just the bare drive.

John
