Strongly recommend the PICAXE approach for PIC/microcontroller newbies
- they've been such an educational/hobbiest sensation "down under"
that it'd be suprising if you've not already heard of them ! Their
editor is free, programmer is a few resistors & with 8 in the range
many users now do more in a few hours(& at jelly bean prices) than
they'd otherwise maybe manage in a week.
