PIC unused pin problem

Hi

I have a problem with a PIC processor, which I think is related to the
unused pins on the processor. I have tried tying all the unused pins to
earth. I then tried to tie all the unused pins to positive supply. It
appears that the processor goes unstable - it stops running or runs faster
than what it is set to. Any suggestions?

I generally just make sure unused pins are programmed to be outputs (and
left unconnected).

Any that can't be programmed as outputs connect to either rail via a
resistor (10k to 100k).
