Phone conversations over the computer

Hi.

I'd like to be able to connect my phone to my computer so that phone
conversations can be captured on my sound card.

I'd prefer not to have to purchase anything too expensive (i.e., items I can
get at Radio Shack, for example). Is there an easy way to do this?

Thanks a lot.

just a quick note.
if your in the UK the watch out as it is illegal to record conversations
with out all parties knowing before hand.

All the best.

Don't know if Rad Shack still sells them, but there those little
suction-cup telephone pickups that we used to buy for tape recorders.

The absolute best way to do this is with a device Radio Shack sells
for about 24.95. This device connects to the phone line in parallel
and also to a tape recorder. Whenever a phone ( even extentsion
phones ) goes off hook, the recorder starts. When the phone is put
back on hook the recorder stops. It does not require any batteries.
Radio Shack part number is Catalog #: 43-228.......Works great!
If you use a PC, you will eat up hard disk space very fast!

I was able to find the item you are referring to on the Radio Shack website.
I am not sure if it will serve my purposes. The units I saw on Radio
Shack's site are able to either record from or play to the phone. I am
looking for something to do both at the same time.

I would like to be able to have a two-way voice conversation with someone on
the phone while broadcasting over the net. I would like the caller's voice
to come into my sound card's input. What I say over my mic should be able
to go back into the phone for the caller. That way, both callers and
listeners can hear the conversation. I have seen $100+ units that will do
this, but there is no way I want to spend that much money to have some fun
spinning tunes.

Maybe I could get your opinion on another idea I had. Radio Shack has a $15
version of their recorder
(
http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CTLG&product%5Fid=43-1237
). I was thinking I could get 2 of these and connect them in series. The
one set to Record would go into my sound card's input and the one set to
Play would go to the output. I really don't see why it wouldn't work.

I am, however, concerned that I might fry my sound card by overloading the
voltage to the card. Also, would there be too much dilution of the sound
quality by setting it up this way?

I am not really that good at electronics, so if anyone with a better
background could give their opinion, I would appreciate it.

Thanks a lot.

Demi-hemi-semiquaver! (Another quick note.)

At least in the UK it can't be, otherwise all the TV companies would have
been prosecuted already for recording rogue traders, con men, swindlers etc.
for various investigative consumer programmes.

I have seen in Denmark a simple adapter that is hooked between the phone and
the microphone of the phone. Then you simply get a minijack out to plug into
the soundcard.
