County man charged with distributing child pornography now faces new
charges of sexual child abuse.
Suzanne Collins reports investigators identified six young victims and
wonder if there are more.
In rural Carroll County near the Pennsylvania line, police uncovered a
quiet horror in a home on St. Paul's Road. Daniel Blake, 32, is charged
with sexually abusing six children.
"He's charged with numerous counts of third-degree sex offense, numerous
counts of sodomy and a sex assault charge," said Amy Blank Ocampo,
Assistant State's Attorney.
The latest criminal investigation came about when Blake was charged in
March for distributing child pornography. Police say he had 78 images
of child porn and was distributing them on the Internet. The photos
appeared to have been taken in Blake's own bedroom. They all depicted
boys under age 14 and some involved sexual bondage.
A woman at a farm on his rural road was disgusted.
"My gut reaction is horrible. As a mother, I can't imagine my children
going through this. It's horrible. My instinct was to recoil--awful,"
said Heidi Caudill.
In March when Blake was first arrested, police say he threatened to
commit suicide. They say he said he would drive his car 120 miles into a
tree. At that time, he was sent to a hospital for evaluation.
Court records show Blake was convicted of sexual battery in 1996 in
Virginia, but he is not listed on Virginia's or Maryland's sex offender
registry.
"Does anyone follow this man to find out if he was doing what he needed
to do?" Caudill said. "It's terrible."
Blake is being held without bail at the Carroll County Detention Center.
The Carroll County State's Attorney's Office asks anyone to call if they
have information on other possible child victims.
