There is no 'best' program. It all depend on how you want to
originate the circuit (schematic, pin list or just draw the
traces), need to simulate, need to auto-route, single sided,
double sided or multi-layer/powerplanes, and output styles
required (photoplotting and CNC or a laser print output for
kitchen sink production).
You maybe ought to post more idea of what you are trying to
make to get detailed views.
Terry Pinnell maintains a list of 60 or so CAD packages with
brief outlines, which you can find at

I think that Eagle is the beast and easiest to use free trial.

If so you would be better off looking at stripboard (aka Veroboard)On Wed, 1 Oct 2003 06:52:40 +0100, Roy Battell <news@vutrax666.co.uk

Is this a one off?
After an e-mailed suggestion from Abdullah Eyles in Ankara, Turkey, IIs this a one off?
If so you would be better off looking at stripboard (aka Veroboard)
which can produce reliable (if often untidy) one-offs with just
a soldering iron and knife.
In case you have never seen it Stripboard consists of single
sided copper strips with a compete matrix of drilled holes.
You cut the strips where necessary and put in wire links.
You will want 0.1 inch pitch board.
To use Surface mount parts use a carrier.

Can it save PCB in *.tif or any similar format?
Mostly the trial Protel version is downloaded.. I don't think as many people
ask for CD's except right after the release so they may take a while.
Simon
I have just found out they don't ship to my country... #$%!

Yes (.bmp). I find it useful to save in this format and thenI think that Eagle is the beast and easiest to use free trial.
