Not a chance. Google doesn't care.

Nope, not a chance. That just legitimises Google as the main arbiter of
Usenet, which is exactly what they want. They're a (very large) newcomer,
Usenet has been around far longer. The only way is if paying customers
lobby their paid providers to stop carrying much of the Google feeds, or at
least to filter them, and even that won't work if it's inconvenient
to do, especially if Google is paying enough baksheesh to those providers
to look the other way. It will only stop if the inconvenience to other
providers and their customers starts to itch badly, and only for those who
migrate from Google Groups to other providers, so Google will try to keep
it happening if that's what it takes to prevent that migration. They can't
watch what happens and learn to use it if it's not happening under their
roof, so they'll permit pretty much anything that keeps it there.

To clear up what looks like self-contradiction:
If Google allow other providers an easy way to filter the crap, there is a
refuge that people can go to, and will even PAY to get there. That hurts
Google's control, so Google will try to make it difficult to get any
respite from it, so that their free access will draw the majority of users,
giving them the huge flow of information they need to do what they do best.
It's good as well as bad, I guess, but either way it can't happen for them
if they start doing things to stem the flow of what they depend on most.

Why would google care when they host the stupid blog, and make
advertising money from it?

Supernews filters all Google Groups spam cross posted to too many
newsgroups. I won't give the exact number, but its is fairly low.

Public Relations

It's not like anyone thinks people don't mind span.

I'm glad someone does. What bothered me was the possibility that no-one was
really trying. At least that way people have a choice. And an example
others might follow. I ought to look into what Easynews are doing, if
anything.

Its not jsut hosting the blog. There is a whole chain of Google abuse here.

1) Using a Google email address to send spam.
2) Using Google Groups to send spam.
3) Using a blog to host pages with nothing but adverts on.
4) Creating pages that contain adverts and no content.

4 separate breaches of their terms and conditions of usage of 4 separate
Google services. If you complain to them you just get a canned reply. I
wonder why they have terms and conditions of usage?

Do no evil - LOL.

The 900 pound gorilla with the dagger to you throat doesn't care
about PR. All he cares about is a steady supply of free bananas.

If Google feels they are being cheated, then they have a reason.
The most effective way to let them know and decide is to report
Blogspot spammers to
mailto:adsense-abuse@google.com

While you're at it, CC to
mailto:gmail-abuse@google.com
and
mailto:groups-abuse@google.com

Maybe having their inboxes flooded will get their attention.
I'm waiting to see if the other divisions
get tired of the crap that spills over onto them
caused by Google Groups' irresponsible attitude toward spam.

I make sure to point out that the repetitive spam is GG's fault.

It's free.

It doesn't leave a trail back to the spammer.
