Pasternack incompetence continues.....

About 11 years ago I made my first request of Pasternack Enterprises LLC
to quit sending me catalogs. I had tried their products and found them
to be overpriced and defective (several of their dB pads simply
opened). And, to make it all worse, they sent me somewhere around 10
unwanted catalogs per year. After many, many requests to stop them,
the catalogs just kept coming.

I just got my 3rd copy of their #2004S catalog this year. So, I will do
my usual and post this feeble effort to tell the world about these
stupid people. It accomplishes very little but it makes me feel better.

Has anyone else had this problem with these idiots at Pasternack?

Based on what you and others have reported about this, I've never
bothered to try to get off of their mailing list. I just dump their
catalogs right into the corporate shred-bin when they arrive.

I don't know why they are so persistent - I've never ordered anything
from them. I suppose the high price of their products might correlate
to their apparent insensitivity to wasteful bulk-mailing.

If you really want to get the message across, go down to your local
well-stocked Post Office, and request a copy of Publication 307. This
tells you how you can file a "Form 1500, Application for Listing
and/or Prohibitory Order" with the P/O. Once you file it, the mailer
you identify is prohibited from sending you _any_ further mail after a
30-day notification period, and violating the Order makes the mailer
subject to court action.

The legal backing behind this is apparently Title 39, United States
Code, Section 3008. It allows a recipient to bar a mailer from
sending material that the recipient believes "in your own discretion"
to be "erotically arousing or sexually provocative." The decision
about what material so qualifies is *yours*, not the Post Office's -
they can't refuse to accept your Form 1500 on the grounds that (e.g.)
"N connectors are not erotically arousing."

This is definitely a "heavy gun" to use, and I don't know whether
Pasternack's silly mailing habits justify using it. That, like the
Section 3008 determination, is for you to decide.

I get catalogs from them from time to time. I used to look at
them, but now I usually just throw them away. I would estimate that
about 400 to 500 catalogs per year of various types come in the mail.
My current records show that I keep 214 of them, however I have made
purchases from only a small number of these. If I were to wage the
sort of compaign against the ones which I throw away that you have
waged against Pasternack, I would have little time to do anything
else. I can only suggest that you either get a life or a paper
burning boiler to heat your house. Another possibility would be to
evaluate the use of Pasternack catalogs as toilet tissue. They seem
to be fairly soft paper as I recall.

The catalogs don't bother me, except to remind me why I only bought
something from them exactly once. Lots of options, and if you happen
to need a bizzarre adapter, I'm sure he'll make one up for you on the
spot, but you can do way better yourself, as his quality is abyssmal.

This would also put you on public record as being titilatted by TNCs and in
theory would open you to charges of fraud if they wanted to dig out the fact
that you get that Digi-Key catalog, too.

You can always use the Pasternak catalog for a handy shim -- they cost less
that PICs or 8051s.

If you want to stop the catalog mailings, you can download the 3 page
Form 1500 from www.usps.com and fill it out. You can submit it to your
local P.O., but the one I submitted never was acknowledged, even tho I
submitted it in person. My guess is that they trash it, and warn the
carriers to stop stuffing your mailbox with the junk mail. So if you
_really_ want to get results, submit it to the Memphis office listed on
the form. Remember that even tho this form says it's for porn, the P.O.
must, by court ruling, leave the decision *totally* up to the customer
what is their interpretation of porn, so it is effectively a way to stop
any mail. Go to www.junkbusters.com or private citizen websites for
more info on this.

I just posted a followup wiht the same advice. I didn't know that form
1500 had a separate instruction on how to file one, I thought that the
instructions were part of the form. I'll have to check it out.

The one that I filed with the local P.O. was never acknowledged, so I
think it is best to file it with the memphis office listed on the form.
The P.O. doesn't like to have to spend money on administrative
hearings for idiots like Pastercrap, so they do anything they can to try
to dissuade the customer from filing. I've spoken to the supervisor at
the local P.O. several times, but I still continue to get junk mail in
my mail box, even tho I've done everything I'm supposed to do to stop it.
