Parts Help Needed

Hi All:

I'm in the process of ressurecting an HP laptop. It has several problems
which I am trying to sort out. A main problem area is the power input jack
for the AC to DC power converter. It has become internally loose such that
the cable needs to be held to one side to force contact. I resoldered the
jack while applying pressure to the ground contact. This helped to
temporarily solve the problem. It will fail again I'm sure. I would like
to replace it proper. Unfortunately, I have no clue where to find a
replacement part. It accepts a 4.5mm OD plug. I'm not sure of the center
pin dimension, but I'll guess 1.5mm. Any ideas on a source for this part?

All help appreciated.

If it is a proprietary type of plug and jack (which I believe it is), why
not searching through the catologs for something that can be retrofitted?
If it is a different type of power connector, get the mates for it, and
change all the connectors on the accessories that are for the machine.

HP will not sell the parts, and will tell you to send them the machine. The
best solution is to send them the machine and let them fix it properly. But,
this may be more expensive. It will however, be back to original.
