Hi,

My parents have a Panasonic TX-W2801F 16/9 TV set. Now all of the sudden, on
the regular cable channels there is a lot of red and green disturbance in
the picture. On digital TV channels and DVD-movies this doesn't occur, but
instead the image get blurred, artifacts from previous screens stay on the
tube, this is most noticable on black areas. There hasn't been any
electrical storm or power outage lately. I unplugged the set for 30 minutes,
didn't help.

I hope someone can tell me what's possibly wrong with this set and what a
possible repair may cost.

*start rant* My parents bought a whole new bunch of video hifi-gear from
panasonic a few years back, and tere have been problems with all of them,
VCR got jammed very very badly 2 or 3 times until the warranty was void and
that crappy piece was sent of to the junkyard. The hifi had a 51 CD changer,
which got stuck twice in warranty and once out of it (when i fixed the
problem myself) 3 years or so after it was bought both cassette decks are
dead also. The TV-set itself has been broken once under warranty and now
again. We really don't want to spend any more money on this company as well
as on the guy that sold and repaired the pieces several times before. *end
rant*

Thank you (also for reading the ranting ;),
Steve

If you are seeing images of previous video when new video appears, this has
to be a memory fault. The set uses digital processing. Only the service
tech with the proper test equipment can analyse what is going on, and
troubleshoot the set. This may however, be a problem that he has run in to
before, and will know the specific components to change after he verifies
this. It is not possible to start accurately guessing over an email to know
the exact parts.

From what I see, and read about, many makes of TV sets, VCR's, and DVD
players, just to start with, have problems. It is not specific to one brand.
The technology used has become very sophisticated, and the reliability can
be low at times. The cost is very low for the performance that these units
give. This is why I tell people to buy an extended warranty with any TV our
device they buy. Many times it is required.
