Picture on this TV has collapsed to a thin line (white) in the centre,
across the width of screen.
I have no diagram!
Any clues please?

first off don't life the set on for too long while this fault exsists
otherwise you'll
find that you have a nice line permently on the screen.

Check that the horizontal output tranny or drive is not cactus.

Er, I think you mean VERTICAL output. This could be either an
IC or a couple of transistors, can't recall offhand.
Could also be dry joints or a capacitor, or even an o/c resistor.

The problem is called "vertical collapse":
http://repairfaq.ece.drexel.edu/REPAIR/F_tvfaq5.html#TVFAQ_016

Follow the yoke cable back to the PCB. You will probably see a
vertical output IC on a heatsink. I'm guessing it will be a Matsushita
part, probably with an "AN" prefix. The IC's datasheet may contain an
application circuit. Check the fusible resistor that supplies power to
this chip. Also check for an OC yoke.
