Panasonic NV-J1 VCR advice wanted

I have just read an old posting from January 2000 about repairing a
Panasonic NV-J1 VCR:

I have a Panasonic NV-J1 VCR which was moved from one room to another
and the mongrel thing has not worked since. The VCR is totally dead so
I removed the cover and eventually found the mains fuse, which to my
disgust was not blown. Does anyone have any Idea as to what would make
it die considering all I wanted to do was relocate it to a different
room.

Further to my previous message.....

While ya got the thing apart, you might want to check/replace the rest of
the electros in the P/S too... They can cause some funny faults when they
dry out, and it will only cost you a couple of bucks total... saves much
anguish chasing strange faults later on...
I actually paid someone a couple of years ago to replace all the
capacitors in the power supply of my NV-J1, but it seems to have failed
in the same way again, ie, I powered it off before a thunderstorm, then
plugged it in later to see no power at all.

At this stage I am wondering whether this is a capacitor problem or
something else. (I tried to get the power supply out to look at the
capacitors, but could not get the metal cage open.)

A second problem is how do I get the tape out that was in it at the time?

Thanks for any help.

** Failure to power up after an interruption to the AC supply is often
because of the failure of a single $ 0.50 electro capacitor buried deep
inside the PSU unit.

Blame the fucking Asian cunts who designed and built the POS - OK
!!!

Face it Phil. If every fucking VCR ever built never failed you'd be out of
business ????? Just think how much money (and profit) you have probably
made by replacing those 50c caps?

Cheers,
