Hi All,

I ripped a panasonic plasma display out of an old laptop. On the label
it sais Panasonic plasma display MD480T640PG3.
On the board behind the display M480T640HBO2C is printed.

I would like to connect it to a regular PC (VGA).
Can someone help me find the datasheet for it ?

TIA

Fred

What are some of the chip part numbers?

Thx for the reply...

On the board there's one IC, partnumber is J043KJ25, on the back side
there are 2 more IC's : SN755783A and MN5130.
And 10 TMF1006, 5 on the top and 5 on the bottom edge of the display.

There's one cable coming from the power supply (works fine), and a
flat cable with 8 pairs of wires (white + other color). I was hoping
those were R, G, B, vert sync, horz sync..., but how can on tell which
is which ?

TIA

You can't feed the SVGA signals directly to a display from a laptop.
There is a custom display river used to feed DIGITAL signals to the
display. You can buy special video cards. Earth LCD has information on
this. http://earthlcd.com/

Very, very doubtfull that would work.
If it is indeed a plasma display, I suspect you'll find that it'd take
a hercules, or EGA signal.

Plasma screens were (IIRC) never used on battery laptops, but were
used in luggables.

...The label on it sais "plasma display", I'm pretty sure it's a color
display but i don't know if it would be EGA or VGA, or what signals
are supposed to be used on that flat cable. It was an old 386sx
panasonic laptop (T3200SX).

Plasma screens were (IIRC) never used on battery laptops, but were
used in luggables.
Indeed no batteries in it.

So, basically, you're all telling me to just forget about it ;-)

Thanks anyway for the quick replies !
Greatly appreciated !

Look on ebay, completed items.
There is a t3200sx picture there.

Looking on groups.google.com for t3200sx reveals quite a lot of posts
from back in the day, indicating it's a 16 shades of orange display.
Why do you think it's colour?
Does the laptop work?

The laptop has worked but there was no hard disk in it, so i never saw
any colors (i have to believe what the people where i got it tell
me...)
I would be very happy if i could use it as a plain text display (on a
small router pc i have here).

They may have assumed orage = color display.

If you can add a hard disk, (small hard disks are peanuts on ebay) or even
boot from a floppy, then the easiest way is certainly to run a terminal
program on the laptop, and do it that way.
