Palsonic ctv model 3458.
You would have to see the picture to believe it.

The picture is kind of like a pyramid with the top cut off.

All of the picture seems to be squeezed
into the cutoff pyramid.

The colours are quite odd.
Sometimes I can see 3 copies of part of the picture,
each a different colour.

I have checked caps with an ESR meter, diodes, inductors.
I have a schematic.

Can someone please assist?

Thanks,
Russell Griffiths.

Hi Russell,

I haven't had this problem with this model, but I've seen a similar problem
before on other brands. Especially the different colours part.

Have you removed the deflection yoke and checked the windings for signs of
burning or arching? If it all looks OK, put the horizontal winding on a
short turns tester just to make sure there's no problems.

Hope this helps
James

Yep i would have to agree with James.Sounds like the deflection yoke has
shorted turns.

I do not think that yoke is a problem. Almost always yoke fails more
dramatically. I would expect blown HOT, smoke, etc.

You have to replace capacitors in primary of PS.
Also, clean up black glue off PCB. It actually eat through PCB tracks with
time.

Hope, it helps,
Rudolf

Well, Well, Well,

And you don't need the DDS signal generator shown in Silicon Chip a few
months ago, you told the CIN list you could do most of it with a computer,
when I told them what was in the latest magazine.

you are a real wag. with some of your replies Mr. Engineer, as if we are wet
behind the ears.

If this chassis is similar to the ones used by Tempest/Princess sets,
then the yoke was a common fault. I have seen several myself. In fact
WES carry spare yokes for this purpose. As suggested elsewhere in this
thread, I would loosen and slide back the yoke and look for tell-tale
burn marks near the glue. Affected yoke part numbers include
DIE1492HL, TCY120PPF, ODYM1401, DSE1422FL. Trade price is either $52
or $60.75.

Although repair is usually uneconomical, IIRC a friend was able to
make one yoke out of two duds.

You have to replace capacitors in primary of PS.
Also, clean up black glue off PCB. It actually eat through PCB tracks with
time.

Hope, it helps,
