Today's copy of the Proceedings of the (US) National Academy of Sciences has a second interesting paper.

Essentially it says that Fred Bloggs and I were wrong to imagine that it matters to a virus or a bacterium what it used to infect when it comes mutating into something that can infect us.
All that matters is the number of bugs and viruses that are mutating.
