Anybody been watching the TeeVee Nooz? Here's Yahoo's take on the
latest earthquake:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20050615/ap_on_re_us/california_quake;_ylt=ArigwAylU03nke2PEGYzy7.s0NUE;_ylu=X3oDMTA2MTQ3MTFjBHNlYwN0cw--
It seems to be a popular story:

One interesting thing I noticed in this morning's TeeVee Nooz was one of
the evacuation authorities mentioning that most people did, in fact, head
inland, or for higher ground, but a significant number of people headed
for the beach, presumably to watch the wave! He said, "Don't do that."

I say, "Throw a little chlorine in the gene pool!"

Cheers!

I have a friend who was just going into the Beach Chalet for dinner
when the tsunami was announced. Everybody just got up from their
tables and ran out; nobody apparently paid their bills.

Hello John,

I have a friend who was just going into the Beach Chalet for dinner
when the tsunami was announced. Everybody just got up from their
tables and ran out; nobody apparently paid their bills.
That ain't fair. At least they should return later and pay their bills.

BTW, there was a faint tsunami. According to our newspaper it was a
whopping half inch and served the purpose of confirming that the
detection buoys are working. Communication seemed to have been a whole
different matter...

The way I heard it was, the seismometers indicated the earthquake,
and the reasoning at the seismometrists' was to call the tsunami guys,
who reasoned, "At that distance, if there _is_ a tsunami, it'll be
here in less than 30 minutes - SOUND THE ALARM!"

When they determined that it was just that flat slip thing, they
heaved a sigh of relief and called off the alarm, and everybody went
back to lunch or whatever.

The scientist they were interviewing said, "We'd rather err on the
safe side." (or words to that effect.)

Cheers!
Rich
