There are examples in amusement park roller coasters.

A benefit is that derailment works against gravity. Then again, derailment
also works against the elevated rail, depending on how high it is.
Oscillation? Sturdy pillars so close to the railroad track might be a
hazard... if it falls off of the rail.

Lighter is better for suspension. The obvious benefit of a platform is
having earth for support. Unlikely they (truthfully) discuss weight
carrying.

But if you elevate a railway, you may as well suspend the cars.

I decided to go with hanging my monitor instead of putting it on a
platform, decades ago. Took lots of thought, but ended up being a good
decision. Also using suspension for speakers.
