I have a phone osc app, I fired it up to see if I could match the frequency of the ringing in my ear (s). I\'m down 50 or 60DB at 4kHz. I started at 7kHz and as I increment it down I could hear a much lower frequency that was decreasing in frequency until at 6920Hz the low frequency stopped. It did not start back up on the lower side of 6920Hz. Is it possible I was hearing a mixing frequency of my tinnitus and the oscillator? Or just an artifact of the phone app.

I downloaded a second Signal generator app and I can\'t replicate it, but going back to the original it s very repeatable.

Sometimes tinnitus can be detected acoustically with a probe microphone in the
ear. If you have such tinnitus, there is every possibility that mixing could occur
in the non-linearities of the cochlea.

I have done such measurements where the intermodulation products of two acoustic signals
injected into the ear canal are detected by a probe microphone. However, it does take some
effort to avoid artifacts caused by non-linearities in the transducers, so you might be hearing those.

Do you know the cause of your tinnitus? Some cases are symptoms of
serious disease, but are treatable if caught in time.

The LF tone you are hearing is probably caused by intermodulation with the sampling frequency or could just be a non-linear part of the sin lookup table

Not really, it\'s nothing new though. My gramps had Meniers disease, but I have no ear pressure or pain, and my balance is good.

I have been reading this thread and thought I would interject some input
on Tinnitus.

First off, I have Tinnitus and have had a for good number of years.++

Maybe 10 years ago I was on a group that was discussing Tinnitus. Don\'t
know the link but one of the individuals in the conversation was a audio
specialist of some sort and was in Florida. He offered to anyone of
those in the discussion a weeks worth of therapy at his office for no
charge. He said that he had three rules that MUST be followed by those
in attendance. They are as follows.

1) DON\'T TALK ABOUT IT!!
2) DON\'T READ ABOUT IT!!
3) DON\'T THINK ABOUT IT!!

I then did a little thinking and discontinued the discussion group.
I realized that when I am not Talking, Reading, Thinking about the
constant ringing in my ears. aka Tinnitus it is a Non-Issue.
Since I started to type the above my volume has gone up by at least 50%.
Once I send this and I start doing something else it will go away.

Some may find this difficult to understand. But the Brain overrides the
sound and life gets a little easier.

Deal with it in your own way, but this works for me.
