However, I have issues with the ranking of this list. I\'ll take the
top 5 countries and list their *major* drawbacks alongside.

Norway - Completely dark for weeks on end in winter

Switzerland - Fucking expensive

Iceland - the clue\'s in the name

Ireland - seriously??

Australia - Australians

But let\'s face it: nowhere\'s perfect.

All those BEST lists are superficial garbage. And quite a lot of their inputs are judgment calls or falsified data.

And any place tolerant enough to take in a twerp like Cursitor Doom would take in enough twerps to become a very dubious retirement destination.

It\'s the Groucho Marx problem - he wouldn\'t join any club whose standards were low enough to admit him.

Australia has several ex-prime minsters who were obnoxious enough to get voted out of their seats in parliament - Tony Abbot and John Howard - so Curistor Doom might fit in here, but we\'ve already got rather more right-wing half-wits than we need.

> But let\'s face it: nowhere\'s perfect.

And Cursitor Doom wouldn\'t be let in anywhere that came close.

You have to have a relatively high income to make Florida\'s so-called
\"low cost of living\" attractive. Yeah there\'s no property or income tax
but depending on where you are your effective sales tax can be 8% with
only limited exceptions, and the price of just about everything else is
higher than the national average.

Yes, you did mention that before if you recall. I asked you why you
thought it was that things were more expensive in Florida.

Most everywhere in the US housing demand outstrips supply, and
COVID-19/remote work has made Florida particularly attractive for
high-income white-collar professionals. Like if you could work from
anywhere in the US for about the same salary would it be Florida or
somewhere with a climate more like Norway (e.g. Massachusetts?)

Who push up prices in a given area and then tend to want to pull up the
ladder behind them and prevent higher-density construction to preserve
said property values/\"neighborhood ambience.\"

For working-class people who can\'t telecommute it looks decent on paper
but you\'re only paying 16% less on average than MA and for certain stuff
like food, clothing, and housing the difference is almost negligible.
Meanwhile your costs for health care/health insurance and property
insurance/auto insurance are almost sure to go up, while you\'re almost
certain to be taking a pay cut simultaneously.

Also as I mentioned because Florida is full of retirees, tourists,
dreamers, wanna-be \"players\", \"aspiring actresses\"/sex workers (there
are like, 50 strip clubs in Tampa alone, almost as common as McDonald\'s)
able and willing to be bilked of their cash. It\'s like Los Angeles and
Vegas in that respect, place where for people who aren\'t well-to-do
already, a few dreams are made but most dreams go to die.

If you want to save real money as compared to living in the Northeast
(or the UK for that matter) you\'d move to Ohio or Arkansas or something.

That\'s one of the reasons I left south-east England. The place has
become so massively overcrowded, the price of everything has gone
through the roof and the infrastructure cannot cope with the
uncontrolled influx. It\'s one massive traffic jam. So many of the
people I left behind tell me they just can\'t wait to GTFO of the
place. Shame, as it used to be really lovely when I was growing up
there.

Possibly, but that\'s all Cultural Marxist BS and only applies between
persons of a Left-leaning disposition engaged in virtue-signaling
