Re: Prohibit the use of recycled sewerage effluent for drinking

Good afternoon to all,
This e-petition is real and genuine. Dr Vinesh Oommen is a PhD student
at QUT but he has worked in research projects in various parts of the
world for WHO. Therefore, I take his email below quite seriously and
for the first time in my life have actually bothered to sign an e-
petition. I urge you to consider doing the same.

Have a nice weekend.

Vinesh Oommen

Dear Colleagues,

This is the most serious thing that has ever happened to you. In the
new year Anna Bligh is going to put recycled toilet water (not
desalinated water from Tugun). This will include toilet water,
industrial factory, morgue and hospital waste that will go into our
dam drinking supply.

This has not been done in any other country in the world and I have
researched this and she has been advised by all the scientists not to
do it as drugs such as ice, the morning after drug, hormones and many
other things such as radiation from chemotherapy cannot be totally
removed from the water no matter what process you use.

Serious birth defects, miscarriages and many other viruses will
contaminate our precious drinking water. Singapore uses 1% of their
toilet water as they have no fresh water and it is stated that they
are amazed that we are even contemplating using between 10-25% sewer
water and never has another country done it. This is very serious,
our water is our life and our health system would never cope with the
catastrophe that is predicted if she does this. If you don't care
about yourselves think about your children and sign this petition and
forward it on to everyone on your email list. Please!!!!! Note the
number and put down your details this is our future!!!

Please pass this on to as many people as possible. You owe it to your
family and future generations.

Prohibit the use of recycled sewerage effluent for drinking purposes

Please sign the petition once you click on the link belowďż˝

Brisbane's water grid will soon be delivering recycled effluent/
sewerage as well as hospital waste, mortuary waste and industrial
waste to householders to be used for domestic purposes (drinking,
cooking, bathing). This is a first-in-the-world living experiment
using a large amount of recycled water (Singapore adds only about 1%
of recycled water to its water supply). Not all pharmaceutical drugs
can be filtered from this waste product.

If you are any of the following - a Queensland resident, a Q'ld
citizen or a Q'ld elector in a nominated electorate - you are eligible
to sign the E-Petition to "Prohibit the use of recycled sewerage
effluent for drinking purposes".

This E-Petition can be accessed via the following link:

That is indeed true that all water is recycled.

The problem is that if you had lived under the QLD state government's
barely hidden incompetence and corruption at pretty much all levels,
as well as the open contempt
it shows to QLD citizens you would understand that this government
couldn't be trusted to keep the
maintenance and equipment and therefore the water quality up to
standard. They already admit to not having
technicians and specialists to maintain the infrastructure that's
already there.

I also know a water treatment specialist, he has serious concerns
about the
heavy metals found in excrement, that are not able to be removed
effectively.

**Bullshit! The technology for removing heavy metals is well-known and easy
enough to implement.

Finally, with a government that couldn't even keep up basic health,
ambulance, police (another government
department absolutely riddled with corruption - right up to the crime
commission) and other standards
during the recent financial "boom years" when they were rolling in tax
and stamp duty revenue - with the world now looking like its going
into a depression, what hope have they got of providing even basic
essential services
with even less funds coming their way in the future ?

**I accept that you don't like your govenment. None of which matters. ALL
state governments will need to look to water recycling very soon. What
Queenslanders need to do is understand the very basic technology required to
do that job. I have no faith that Queenslanders will be able to undstand
such things. Given the utter nonsense you've just posted, it is abundantly
clear that you have failed to do even basic research into the matter. You
seem to be happy to parrot some red-neck claptrap however.

Of course, with all the drinking of bottled water, alcohol, soft
drink, energy drinks these days that people seem to consume, it could
be interesting to speculate on how much tap water the average person
drinks anymore.
debate how many people actually drink much tap water any more.

**That would be their choice. I consume my water direct from the tap. I
fully expect the NSW government will commence water recycling very soon. I
will, of course, support such moves because I have done the basic research
into the matter. The NSW education system has prepared me for real life.

Look at it the other way round. The percentage of water that is drunk is
tiny, most of it goes into toilets, showers, industry and gardens. What's
the sense in treating it all to the enormously high standards required for
drinking? There are plenty of places where the advice is to *not* drink the
reticulated water, and bottled drinking water is available everywhere at
very low prices.

Fully potable reticulated water is just one of the other anachronistic
conveniences that we're going to have to get used to doing without.

Is that the kind of "site" you mean? Or do you mean 'cite'? If so, I can
provide you with enough cites to keep you busy for the next few decades. For
the record: Heavy metals are pretty much the easiest stuff to remove from
water. As usual, Queenlanders, rather than finding out the truth, have
sucked up some complete bollocks from scare-mongers and are promulgating it
as fact. No wonder they kept voting for Joh.

Are you a Queenslander too?

**I accept that you don't like your govenment. None of which matters.

**It is easy enough to arrange it so this cannot occur. Rampant paranoia,
amongst Queenslanders, notwithstanding. In any case, it is likely that any
recycled water system will not be fed into the drinking water system. It
would be used for other purposes. Drinking water comprises a miniscule
proportion of water consumption.

A man who can't contribute anything to the discussion without calling
anyone not in full agreement with him some sort of retarded,
uneducated red neck - even bringing up Joh (who left QLD politics over

Finally your infantile and repeated "Queensland bashing" comments are
a bit rich when many of the moronic comments, and insults seen on this

anywhere but QLD. Would also like to point out, that in many parts of

moved to QLD to retire.
