Outlook clearly sucks.

I have a problem with it seinding emails via my smtp.

It will happily send emails to anyone at the same domain as I reside. But if I
try to send to anyone outside that domain it replies with "No transport
provider was available for delivery to this recipient."

I can send emails using a web based client, I can send them using outlook
express or outlook 2000 on another machine.

Apparently this message is generated by outlook not by the smtp or it's server.

Microshite's website lists this error for about 35 different, totally
unrelated, problems problems (one of which is the network name of the PC
sending the email - like that should be relevant), all of which have been
checked. Even as far as removing outlook and reinstalling it.

I took people's advice and have Mozilla on CD on it's way, (can't download it
as I access internet via a mobile connection and it's too unreliable) but does
anyone have any ideas why Outlook does this ? Apart from the fact that it's
shyte.

recheck Tools Accounts default
and Tools Accounts Properties

Follow your ISP instructions for the account settings.

Are you using a cable modem? Cable companies have recently started to block
port 25 pass-through to any outside server. They do this to stop spammers
from using them as a gateway.

To make up for it, they sometimes give you a work-around. You can use the
cable company's SMTP server and they will send it for you. Then the header
of your message will identify your ISP, but only a spammer would object to
that. Try pointing Outlook at the cable company's server while leaving
other settings alone.

Outlook doesn't have tools> accounts.

Outlook express might, outlook 2000 might. Plain old Outlook doesn't

The most likely cause of this error is that you have a firewall/gateway
problem. You have set up Outlook to send emails but haven't given it a
gateway off your LAN.
I don't have a firewall installed.

But technically I suppose Outlook *is* connecting via a LAN and int is indeed
told it connects via a LAN as it connects via a mobile phone PC card.

But that doesn't explain why I can email successfully to other names on the
same domain.

Gut feeling tells me, as JJ suggests, that there is a problem with the server
but I can send successfully via a web based client.

Thanks all.

I cured it quite simply.

Uninstalled outlook.

Installed Mozilla. Worked perfectly first time. No messing around.

Now I just need to sort it out for newsgroups then I can get rid of this damned
AOL.

No expert but been using Outlook for a fair while. Must have had to explore
the effect of every check box option in its innane menuing system. Never
come across that particular message though.
Outlook is grade #1 shite but seems to be able to adequately (ie 'barely')
function even with some of its options messed up.

For my tuppence, I'd go with some kind of server oddity.
