How do you install Adobe Acrobat v5, but yet have Adobe v4 be dominant
when a PDF file is double-clicked?

We discussed this here many moons ago, and now I can't remember how it
was done.

I finally found something useful for Acrobat v5... "Save As PNG" works
great for creating good resolution schematics for PPT presentations.

I love to cook with wine. Sometimes I even put it in the food.

What I don't like about v5 is that I can't set the resolution for
exported images. I frequently print forms to PDF in order to acquire an
image for a database app. v5 will only export to 200dpi, not enough for
my use.

Don't use "Export", use "Save As". You can set the resolution or let
it be automatically chosen.

You should be able to associate ".pdf" file types with
whatever application (or version thereof) you choose.

Here is how it works on my W2K and XP machines...

Windows Explorer
Menu Bar: Tools
Dropdown Menu: Folder Options
Tab: File Types
Registered File Types list: PDF
Opens With...
Button: [Change]
Select which application you want to automatically open PDFfiles.

Hmmmm!

Just tried it on my Win2K machine that has both versions installed.
Your suggestion doesn't show any *version* choice :-(

You can "aim" it at a *specific* executable file (.exe)
If you choose the 5.0 executable, that is the one it
will use, etc.

You may have to research and document exactly which
..exe file is the Acrobat 5.0 version so you can select it.

Note that you will likely have to use the manual "Browse..."
option, because only the newest "installed" version of
Acrobat will be shown in the "Programs" list. At least
that is how it works on the PCs I use.

Richard, Thanks, I'll try that.

This might work. Uninstall 4; reboot; reinstall 4. I installed Acrobat 5 on
a machine that has reader6.x on it, and it made 5 the default. So, by
extrapolation ......

when you installed acro5 you ended up with acro4 and acro5 on your
cmptr ??
When I open a file by right click I used to go to "open with" and
select acro5 to use it, acro4 was the default setting

"Browse" didn't work, but changing the listings under "Advanced" did.
Thanks for the pointers!

I think that's what I did previously on another machine. But Richard
Crowley's pointers got me to "View" + "Advanced" where I just changed
the directory listings.... everything is working AOK!
