Well, it *could* be. I wouldn't put any money on it, though; they've been
saying this every October for at least the last 8 years.

Yikes, 0.6% per year. The ones who leave will be largely the mobile
high earners/high tax payers. The place is bankrupt already.

oh my God, Massachusetts is losing tons of people. The Northeast loses
more population to internal migration than any other region. It's the
end of the world.

wait, MA has the #1 GDP per capita of all the states. Hmm, maybe we're
only losing the losers.

Imagine being the kind of long-term resident of Illinois who buys a home
for a song circa 1992 and sits on it and watches that home blow up in
value far outstripping inflation, such that you could sell it and have
200 grand in the bank, more liquid assets than 90% of Americans have,
and still have enough left over to buy a "median American home" cash.

"We pay close to $15,000 a year in property taxes on a home worth about
$400,000."

It's like - that means you're rich, now. Didn't you get the memo?

Ah, boomers. Even being rich makes them mad.

IL and CT are just leading the leftist states down the bankruptcy

Nobody ever thinks that they are rich, or that the house that they live in might look like a "luxury home" to somebody poorer.

Krw doesn't do comparative thinking. What he thinks has to be absolutely right, and he expects everybody else to recognise that what he thinks he knows is the universal standard of correctness.

It's lunatic delusion, but his particular cognitive defect doesn't offer him any other point of view.

Nobody's sad about grumpy geriatric right-wing retirees with high-value
assets but limited incomes packing up to head for TN or UT or AZ except
them, it's just one less shitty driver in some barge of a car to deal
with at the mall parking lot.

Hey, in some parts of the country, that won't get you a two-bedroom.
That's not luxury taxes, because three items are commonly
regarded as NOT luxuries: food, clothing, shelter.

That state would be in a terrible fiscal position were it not for the
massive tax contributions generated by the city of Chicago alone. ;->

Bew hew!

That they can't afford to pay the property taxes but the home is worth
so much more than the median would seem to indicate that it's gone up in
value significantly but their income has decreased. So it's not the only
shelter they can afford, they're going to be much better off financially
by selling it and moving to Utah or whatever.

They made a killing off the free market real-estate system by doing
essentially fuck all but sitting in one place. Now they're not making a
killing anymore and they've lived there so long they've gotten
sentimental about the place, probably. Their sentimentality is not the
market system's fucking problem. Where's the gratitude?

The bullshit about how everything has gone to shit and nobody wants to
live there is just that. Single-family homes of average size are not
worth $400,000 in places that everyone is trying to get away from.

grumpy boomers will invent up any bullshit to justify their egomaniac
fuck-you-got-mine attitudes. They respect you more if you ignore them.

Hmm, here in Vancouver, BC, Canada the median home is around $690,000
Canuk, around $520K USD, and property taxes for that place are perhaps
$1703CAD = $1290USD.

We do have free medicare too. Had an ambulance show up at the house to
take me to the hospital (I'm fine, was a false alarm fortunately) - at
no cost to me or my family.

Not sure where I am going with this...

The average American voter is a 52 y/o twice-divorced dude with a pot
belly who goes to church on Sunday and is typing "fuck faggots gay ass
libtard fag nigger queers" to the Internet in a dark bedroom somewhere
on Saturday so we can't have nice stuff like that.
