The black line is the inverted price of gas and the purple line is Bush support
not inverted.

What is it that you're trying to tell us? What's a "Bush Index?
George did something and gas prices went up?

There is really no meaningful information there.

I think the chart is trying to show that as gas prices increase (for whatever
reason), the president's popularity goes down.

I'd guess that if this same relationship was plotted for any administration
in the past, the correlation would be similar. People like to blame someone
for high prices, and it's usually the prez.
