OT: Google is reading our emails

That is in fact the effect of what Google is doing, by keeping a
purchase history that you probably never heard of. For 10 years!

Just search for (Google OR Gmail purchase history).

I knew what their justification would be. It's obvious. They think they
are doing us a service by reading our emails and keeping a log of our
purchases.

That is so corrupt. If they can read your emails for that purpose, then
they can read it for any other purpose. In other words... No court order
necessary. Your Gmail emails are not private.

Shouldn't they be providing a service of keeping track of your
anniversary by listening in to find out, lol. There are so many amazing
services they could provide...

This comes as a surprise to you? I thought it was widely known that
Google mines Gmail for data that they can use and sell. It is a free
service and somebody has to pay for it somehow.

There are plenty of other ways to mine information, besides reading
our emails. Our government cannot even read our email without a
court order, or getting into serious trouble.

Being judicially oriented, it comes as a SHOCK to me. Apparently the
language was added in 2014, after lawsuits were filed. I have seen
the obscure language. I would be impressed to see such language in
any other email provider's agreement. I'm waiting for that...

Have you read the terms and conditions of using Gmail? No one ever does. I at least scan them for the word "indemnification". It's not like you have any recourse though. If you want to use their service, you accept their terms. The worst part is every time you log in you are obligated to reread the terms and conditions because they can change them at will and multiple states have passed laws making this a legal contract.

I take advantage of this by posting my company's terms and conditions on my web site. Then I can change them at will and any new orders are covered by the new terms and conditions even if they don't read them.

If I can find a Chrome Stylebot equivalent add-on for Firefox, I will
switch back to that. I have always used light text on a dark
background in Windows, and Stylebot makes that possible in Chrome.
Stylish for Firefox might work, but I will need to learn it. I sure
wouldn't recommend Chromebooks to anybody, anymore. Planning to switch
my shopping and other email to a paid for service like Fastmail or
maybe just Hotmail (after a little research).

There are plenty of Supreme Court cases that curtail invasion of
privacy via modern devices. Congress is slow to act, but eventually
there will be legislation against it.

That and a jillion other things. Besides making everything look
better and removing clutter, it helps extend ad blockers too. Takes
some skill, like using DevTools (I guess that's a Chrome specific
utility). The developer is long gone, but it's an amazing add-on.

Wasn't it a hint when it put your airline reservations into your calendar for you? And google maps with it's creepy notifications of how long it will take to get to places it assumes you are going.
