How do these people manage this? -sending posts with date/time days in
advance sometimes. I think it's a ploy to capture way more notice than
they're due.

Because they're using Windoze XP with totally broken SNTP protocol.

Because they're using Windoze XP with totally broken SNTP protocol.
I'm still using XP and my times come out right. Some readers allow
you to set GMT or local and that might be a prob. I once saw a reply
to one of my posts that was timestamped prior to my post. I thought
I had time warped, but after checking the headers, and asking the
poster, it turned out his clock was set wrong.

No, its just a ploy to get the attention of trolls. Looks like it worked.
